Election Services

Election Services

Running a workplace can be a tricky process, requiring attention to detail, strict adherence to rules and deadlines, and complete objectivity and impartiality.

It is important for the credibility of the whole information and consultation process that the ballot to elect representatives is conducted in a transparent and proper manner, and many organisations opt to use a third party organisation such as IPA to conduct elections on their behalf.

What we do

The IPA can provide help and guidance at all stages of the process, including:

·    Guidance on communication strategy prior to the election
·    Design of an election process that fits with your company’s work organisation
·    Provision of all election documentation
·    Sending out call for nominations via email or post, as necessary
·    Receiving completed nomination forms
·    Validating nominations
·    Editing or provide help to potential candidates with writing election statements
·    Maintaining a schedule of nominations received and providing daily updates
·    Providing a final statement of nominations and declaring the constituencies where a ballot is required
·    Preparing ballot forms for distribution to voting constituencies
·    Sending out ballots by email or post, as necessary
·    Receiving completed ballots and storing securely
·    Counting ballots and returning certified result

The Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act
1992 require certain ballots and elections that trade unions are required to hold by statute to be supervised by a qualified independent person, known as a “scrutineer” appointed by the trade union.  The IPA is qualified as an independent person and listed in the Trade Union Ballots and Elections (Independent Scrutineer
Qualifications) (Amendment) Order 2010, SI number 436 2010.
