Employment Relations Diagnositic

Employment Relations Diagnostics

What we do

For organisations wanting to ensure their employee and industrial relations are fit for purpose, it is vital to know the strenths and weaknesses of existing arrangements.

Nita Clarke has carried out in-depth diagnostic reviews to establish this base line in organisations as diverse as Sellafield UK, Guernsey Post, Thompson Airways, BAE Systems and National Nuclear Laboratory, among many others.  She carries out in depth one to one interviews with managers and union/staff representatives, supplemented where necessary with group discussions with employees.  The results are analysed and reported back to the client, along with proposals for action to ensure that collective relationships are adding value to the organisation.

To discuss how your organisation might benefit from an employment relations diagnostic contact Sarah Dawson at sarah.dawson@ipa-involve.com or 020 7354 8040.

What they say

National Nuclear Laboratory

When a new team took over at the National Nuclear Laboratory – following the awarding of the management contract to a consortium headed by Serco - they asked Nita Clarke to assess the state of the union/company relationship and to help the company move forward. Nita’s report was presented to a joint round table, where issues such as capacity building on the union side and the need for a wider understand of the external challenges facing the industry were discussed, and subsequent action agreed.

“Nita did a great job in helping a new management team and recently formed
Union Branch to understand each others perspectives and priorities through
a facilitated workshop. This has proved to be a great foundation which
has helped us through some of our more challenging times and has ensured
that we have stayed true to our principles of partnership.

The workshop was a challenging event and was especially enjoyable when
the management and union representatives had the opportunity to swop
roles for simulated negotiations... We have often referred back to this
experience in subsequent 'real life' situations.”

Paul Renshaw, HR director, National Nuclear Laboratory

Sellafield Limited

Nita carried out a major series of interviews with union representatives and managers at Sellafield to help the new managers understand the union and employee engagement challenges on the site.

'When a new company took over the Sellafield nuclear site, Nita carried out a major series of interviews with union representatives and managers.  She reported to the board on the state of employment relations and suggested ways that unions and managers could work together to meet the employee engagement challenges on the site.'

David McNerney, Executive Director Human Resources
Sellafield Limited

Thomson Airways

Nita helped Thomson Airways develop their approach to their trade unions following the merger of First Choice and ThomsonFly. Nita presented to the Board and a way forward was agreed, which is being successfully implemented.

"Nita's in depth knowledge and experience of working with the Trades Unions, coupled with her appreciation of the importance of employee engagement, meant that she was instantly able to gain the trust of all our stakeholder groups. This in turn led to a deeply insightful diagnostic, a meaningful proposal for change and the subsequent programme of work. The results are brilliant. Our relationship with our major Trade Union body at a national, sector and local level is the best that it has been. We are seeing the emergence of a culture of trust and mutual respect in the work place which, until recently, we could only dream of."

Carl Gissing, Director of Customer Service at Thomson
