There is growing evidence of the importance of employee engagement in the NHS. Trusts with high levels of employee engagement tend to have higher levels of employee well being, as well as more satisfied patients and better clinical outcomes.

With the NHS facing significant challenges and substantial financial pressures, employee engagement is more important than ever.

In April, the IPA launched ‘Meeting the Challenge – Successful Employee Engagement in the NHS’ which examined the approaches of high-performing NHS Trusts.

In this case study, Nicole Ferguson of Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust explains how they developed an innovative approach to engaging with their workforce – known as ‘The WWL Way’ – which has seen them substantially increase levels of employee engagement at the trust.
